More is not always better. In fact, if you're not recovering, more is actively destroying your progress.
Most people guess how recovered they are based on soreness. But muscular soreness is only half the equation. The real battle is happening in your Central Nervous System (CNS), and the best way to track it is through Heart Rate Variability (HRV).
HRV measures the variation in time between each heartbeat. A high HRV means your nervous system is relaxed, adaptable, and ready to take on high-intensity training. A low HRV means you're stressed—whether from hard training, lack of sleep, poor nutrition, or life stress.
When your HRV tanks, your body is screaming for a deload. If you push through it and do heavy sparring or a max-effort lift, you're inviting injury, burnout, and stagnation.
This is why we track metrics. At One Star Fitness, we respect the data. If your HRV is in the gutter, we pivot. We focus on mobility, active recovery, or light drilling. We live to fight another day.
Rest is not weakness. Recovery is a strategy. Track your data, listen to your nervous system, and stop leaving your gains on the table.
